NAB summons CM Shahbaz Sharif in Ashiana Housing Scheme corruption scandal

LAHORE, JAN 17 (DNA) – National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has summoned Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif on January 22 in relation with the Ashiana Housing scheme corruption scam, media reports have surfaced.
Earlier NAB had asked for complete details of Ashiana Housing Scheme and Paragon Housing Scheme for an investigation into the illegal housing schemes issue.
Ashiana Housing Scheme, a project of Punjab government was originally launched to provide inexpensive and adequate residential facility to members of the low-income group in the province with Rs 2 billion investment. For the purpose of this scheme, the provincial government had acquired 672 Kanals of land near Darbar Baba Noor Shah.
Paragon scheme, on the other hand, is owned by Railways Minister Khwaja Saad Rafique. NAB had decided to initiate a probe into the matters of the minister’s housing society after receiving a number of complaints regarding ‘illegal deal’ involving 3,000 Kanal government land between the Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC) and the company overlooking the affairs of Paragon Housing Society.
