Pakistan conveyed serious concern to US over drone attack: Sartaj
ISLAMABAD, 26 MAY (DNA) – Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz says Pakistan has conveyed serious concern to the United States over drone attack.
Addressing a news conference in Islamabad Thursday, the Adviser said drone action is violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty as well as breach of the principles of the United Nations Charter.
Sartaj Aziz said the killing of Taliban Chief Mulla Akhtar Mansur has further complicated the Afghan issue. He said this approach will not only further destabilize Afghanistan, but also have negative implications for the region, due to the presence of large number of terrorist groups in Afghanistan.
The Advisor said Pakistan believes that politically negotiated settlement remains the most viable option for bringing lasting peace to Afghanistan. He said a military approach has been tried for fifteen years and could not achieve the objective.
Sartaj Aziz said effective border management is vital for checking the infiltration across long and porous Pakistan-Afghanistan border. He said the Afghan Government’s cooperation is imperative for mutual security.
The Adviser said war against terrorism claimed sixty thousand lives and caused one hundred ten billion dollars loss to the country’s economy.
He sd operation Zarb-e-Azb is going on successfully against terrorism and the writ of the state has been established in the Tribal Areas.
Answering a question about Iran, India and Afghanistan agreement on Chabahar port, Sartaj Aziz said Gwadar and Chabahar ports are complementary to each other and will boost trade activities in the region. DNA
