Pakistan expresses concern over EU’s demand to condemn Russian move

Staff Reporter
Islamabad, MAR 4 /DNA/ – Pakistan has expressed deep concern over the press release issued by the European Union (EU) Pakistan.  Office spokesman Asim Iftikhar Ahmed said in a weekly press briefing on Friday that “it is not right to use such language against any country.”

He expressed concern over the use of non-diplomatic language in press releases against Pakistan. He said that embassies of European countries should not be part of such a move. “This attitude is unacceptable. Pakistan has conveyed its concern to European embassies,” he said. The Foreign Office spokesman said that Pakistan had met the ambassadors of different countries and protested against it.

In a joint press release issued on March 2, EU representatives in Islamabad called on Pakistan to condemn Russia’s ongoing actions against Ukraine. Responding to reporters, he said that Pakistani embassies in Ukraine, Hungary and Poland were working hard for the evacuation of Pakistani migrants from war-torn areas.

He said that Pakistan was committed to the basic principles of the United Nations Charter: the right of the people to self-determination, non-use or threat of use of force, the sovereignty of states and territorial integrity and conflict. He added that these principles should be universally respected.
The Foreign Office spokesman added that Pakistan was deeply concerned about the recent developments. He hoped that all efforts would be made to avoid further escalation of military and political and economic tensions, including violence and loss of life, which could pose an unprecedented threat to international peace and security and global economic stability. He hoped that the talks between the representatives of the Russian Federation and Ukraine would be successful in ending hostilities and normalizing the situation.
