Afghan politician kidnapped from Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: Afghan politician Fazalullah Wahidi, who served as governor of Kunar and Herat provinces in Afghanistan, was kidnapped from F-7 sector on Friday, police said.
The protocol officer at the Afghan embassy informed capital police of the kidnapping.
The former governor was living in F-7/2 and was with his grandson near Rana Market when two vehicles, one a black double cabin with a blue revolving light and the other a white Toyota Corolla, stopped by him.
Three people got out of the cars and forced Mr Wahid into the double cabin before driving off. The former governor’s nephew, Syed Zabhiullah Wahidi, lodged a complaint at Kohsar police station.
A police source said the police had not been aware that the former governor was in Islamabad. He said details had been sought about Mr Wahidi from the Afghan embassy, which may help identify the kidnappers.
Though it is too early to establish the motive behind the kidnapping, the police official said, it did not seem like a kidnapping for ransom case.
Mr Wahidi, 66, served as governor of Kunar from November 2007 and was appointed governor of Herat in July 2013.
