ISLAMABAD, 01 DEC (DNA) – Minister of State for Capital Development and Administration and PML (N) leader Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has expressed the confidence that the tally of PML (N) seats of Chairman in Islamabad Capital Territory local government elections would cross thirty.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad Tuesday evening, he said PML(N) has won 22 seats, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) 16 and independents 12 in Monday’s elections. He said four of the independents had applied for PML(N) tickets and they are staunch workers of the party.

The party is also in touch with four others while the remaining four would also hopefully joint PML (N). The Minister of State rejected allegations of rigging levelled by PTI and said these are baseless.

He said people have now become allergic of these allegations and want PTI to play a constructive role for their betterment. He expressed gratitude of people of Islamabad for reposing confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

He said PML (N) fared well both in urban and rural areas of the capital. He said PML(N) made inroads even in those areas of the city which were previously considered to be strongholds of PTI.

A total number of 6,80,612 registered voters exercised their right to vote in LB elections in the federal capital out of which 3,67,960 are male voters and 3,12,652 female voters. At least 2,396 candidates are contesting for 550 seats in the federal capital of the country.

At least 255 candidates contested for the posts of chairman while 1,210 candidates battled for the general seats. Besides this 351 female candidates competed for the women seats while 248 candidates were in the run for the labour seats. On the other hand, 230 candidates contested for the youth seats while 102 candidates were in the race for the minority’s seats in today’s LB polls.

Around 640 polling stations were established out of which 261 were for males and 256 for females. However; 123 polling stations were be shared by both men and women. Tight security arrangements were made to ensure free, fair and transparent polling. Six hundred and twenty five Army troops and seven hundred personnel of Rangers along with hundreds of police officials were deployed in the capital for the purpose. DNA
