PML-N decides to contest by-poll in NA 122, 154

ISLAMABAD, 27 AUG (DNA) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday announced it will contest by-election in NA 122 and 154 constituencies vacated after Election Tribunals’ verdicts.Talking to media persons after high level meeting of the party in Islamabad on Thursday, Federal Ministers Pervaiz Rashid and Ahsan Iqbal said the party would not seek stay orders against elections in these constituencies. Pervaiz Rashid said that they will definitely consult the courts for ‘correction of record’ but will not plead stay orders.

To a question he said counsel of Sardar Ayaz Sadiq is out of the country and an appeal would be filed in the Supreme Court, against Election Tribunal verdict, but no stay order would be sought.

The Minister announced that PML-N has decided to contest elections from NA 122 and 154 constituencies, adding that PTI can’t adopt the ‘escape route’. He said Imran Khan should come to the battleground and contest elections, adding that no excuse will be accepted.

“We’ll teach Imran Khan a lesson in both constituencies”, he said. Pervaiz Rashid said that Ayaz Sadiq and co-contestant from Mohsin Latif will remain PML-N candidates from the NA 122 and PP 147 constituencies respectively.

However, he said, Imran Khan and Jehangir Tareen are looking to escape the contest. The Minister for Information invited Imran Khan to contest by-elections against Sardar Ayaz Sadiq from NA-122 Lahore. Similarly, he said, Jehangir Tareen should contest by-elections from NA-154.

He said PTI’s complaint about Election Commission members is merely an excuse to run away from the elections. “Why can’t same election commission hold other elections if it can organize local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa?” he asked.

He claimed Imran Khan wasted precious two years of people and now has to contest the elections. He dared Imran Khan to contest the election from Ayaz Sadiq’s constituency again “if he is so adamant about his truth”.

Meanwhile, PML-N leader Ayaz Sadiq said while talking to the media that Imran Khan is suffering from a phobia, adding that Khan will face defeat in next election if PML-N completes its remaining three years.

“Imran Khan wants to steer the country away from development agenda”, he said. “He wants to spoil country’s happiness. He said their pace will increase with every attempt at staging sit-in protest by the PTI chief.

Ahsan Iqbal said PML-N would get more votes in by-elections than it secured in the general elections. He said peace is returning to the country, confidence of the international community is picking up and foreign investment increasing.

He said by hurling threats of sit-ins, Imran Khan is trying to spoil this congenial atmosphere and joys of the people. Ahsan Iqbal said the Prime Minister always believes in reconciliation, as is evident from his policies. DNA
