PM announces Rs500n for Gilgit-Baltistan flood-affectees

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday announced Rs500 million to help rehabilitate flood-affectees in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The premier reviewed ongoing relief activities in flood-hit areas in Gilgit-Baltistan while local authorities briefed him on damages caused by floods.

Addressing flood-affectees in Ganche, PM Nawaz also announced Rs500,000 as compensation for the heirs of those who lost their lives in the floods, Rs150,000 each for the injured and 250,000 to be allocated for reconstruction of houses damaged.

Moreover, the premier announced a grant of Rs150,000 million to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to expedite relief activities Gilgit-Baltistan.

PM Nawaz further said that the government is fully aware of the devastation caused by floods and aims to support Gilgit-Baltistan in all capacity. He also distributed relief items among affectees.

He added that the government will provide all possible resources to develop flood-affected areas as well provision of basic facilities in health and education sectors.

The premier also mentioned the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, adding that Gilgit-Baltistan will greatly benefit from the project. He added that the road from Gilgit to Skardu will be improved and expanded further to Khaplu.
