Mukhtaran Mai walks the ramp at Fashion Pakistan Week
KARACHI: Mukhtaran Mai’s walk for fashion week first-timer Rozina Munib was the highlight of Day 3 of the Fashion Pakistan Week.
Mukhtaran Mai, the survivor of a horrific gang-rape incident in 2002, now runs a sanctuary cum shelter for women and children and said her walk on the ramp was for their cause.
A symbol of hope for the neglected victims of violence, Mukhtaran said she was at the show to spread awareness about women’s struggles, those shunned by the society as well as their families.
he last day of the Winter Festive 2016 by the pioneering Fashion Pakistan Week was all about mentoring the young and supporting a cause.
Day 3 opened with an incredibly versatile and strong collection by Nida Azwer called Alankara. Experimenting with intricately worked trench coats, shorter structured jackets, tops and high-waisted gharara’s, the IVS graduate stayed true to her signature style once again and revived traditional craft in a contemporary narrative.
The line-up this time, comprising emerging or completely new names, was all about promoting the young, said seasoned designer Shamaeel Ansari, who is also one of the founding members of the council.
Designer Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, as the choreographer of the three-day Winter festive, said that in an attempt to separate fashion from entertainment the focus of presentation this time around has been on the clothes and new lines created for the ramp.
