Imran Khan says Ehtesab rally is just a trailer

Islamabad march

PESHAWAR, AUG 07 (DNA): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Sunday spearheaded his party’s anti-corruption rally in Peshawar where he was joined by thousands of supporters.

The rally is aimed at pressing the ruling PML-N to take measures for an end to corruption and establish system of accountability in state institutions.

The rally is also part of the opposition’s efforts to press the government to launch probe into Panama Leaks, which involved offshore holdings of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family.

“This is just the beginning, this is just a trailer. The match will not end. We will be on streets to mobilize masses till Nawaz Sharif presents himself for accountability,” Khan said, addressing his supporters in Peshawar.

In the rally titled ‘Tehreek-e-Ehtesab Rally’, the procession of PTI supporters was heading to Attock where a large public meeting will be held in Khairabad area.

“Are parliamentarians not under duty to ask Nawaz Sharif how his properties have multiplied? This is stolen money and corruption money,” Khan asserted.

He said the state institutions like Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) ‘have failed to end corruption.’

“Why is NAB, why are our parliamentarians not asking Nawaz Sharif where all his properties and wealth have accumulated from? The FBR taxes the poor, and leaves these big criminals. There is unprecedented inflation to pay back loans, all is levied on you,” he said.

“The institutions of Pakistan are not protecting your money and your interests, so you have to do it yourself. Poor people languish in jails on false charges while the rich and powerful are spending your money in properties abroad.”

“Institutions like NAB that are meant for accountability but are instead saving the corrupt like Nawaz Sharif and his cronies. A small contingent of the rich steals your money, ruin institutions that work to protect the criminals.”

He urged PTI supporters to join the accountability movement.

“This movement has started today to demand accountability from these institutions that think accountability is for the poor, not the powerful. Remember that this movement is every Pakistanis movement who wants to free this country of cancer of corruption,” Khan affirmed.

“It is the junoon of youth of PTI that does not care about the heat, about rain. The change begins with you. Change is on the horizon. The match is about to begin, and we will not stop till we win.”

PTI activists from all over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) reached Zakori Bridge to kick off the rally.

Khan was accompanied by senior party leaders including Naeem Ul Haq, Jehangir Tareen, and Shah Mehmmod Qurashi.

Earlier, protestors belonging to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) stopped PTI’s rally when it reached Kohat.

A large number of protestors belonging to PML-N were on roads. The workers, burning tyres on roads at four different points, came face to face with participants of PTI rally, compelling Khan’s supporters to change their route.

PML-N supporters were being led by the party MNA Abbas Afridi; however, PML-N senior leaders Talal Chaudhry claimed that the protest was joined by other parties as well.

“The protest has nothing to do with PTI’s rally,” Chaudhry clarified.

Meanwhile, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the ruling party is using ‘dirty tactics’ to halt the way of anti-government protestors.

“Protest is our democratic right which could not be snatched. They are uselessly inflicting hindrances,” Qureshi said.

Apparently to foil PTI’s political show, the ruling PMl-N has organized a public meeting in Peshawar Sunday.

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) anti-government Ehtesaab rally has left for Attock from Peshawar Sunday.

The rally is led by PTI chief Imran Khan who has also invited the Pakistanis to join the movement. The passionate workers have also pledged support with their leader.

While talking to participants of anti-government rally in Peshawar, Imran Khan said that every Pakistani wants to eliminate corruption from the country. He said that major departments have been destroyed due to continuous corruption.

Rally will be continued until accountability of PM in Panama leaks, he added.

Khan said that PTI supporters don’t care about weather as they are enthusiastic for new Pakistan.

Imran Khan had also inspected the Ehtesaab container in Peshawar and addressed the activists.

He declared the rally as important and said that the protest would be ended in Raiwind.

He said under this Tehreek, national institutions including National Accountability Bureau, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and judiciary would be urged to bring the powerful under rule of law.

He also demanded to detention the crooks for the improvement in political system of Pakistan.

PTI has also arranged welcome stalls at the routes of the rally to motivate the participants while Imran Khan would talk to the people at different points. =DNA
