Imran backs army chief’s statement on corruption

PESHAWAR, 19 APR (DNA) –  Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Tuesday put his weight behind the statement of Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif regarding corruption.

“The entire Pakistan stands behind the army chief regarding his statement on eradication of corruption,” Khan told the media at Chief Minister House in Peshawar.

Khan’s remarks came shortly after General Raheel Sharif called for an across the board accountability to uproot corruption and linked it with enduring peace and stability in the country

“The ongoing war against terrorism and extremism being fought with the backing of entire nation cannot bring enduring peace and stability unless the menace of corruption is uprooted. Therefore, across the board accountability is necessary for the solidarity, integrity and prosperity of Pakistan,” General Sharif while visiting Signal Regimental Centre in Kohat.

Khan said that he would mobilize the entire country on Panama leaks. “Mian sahab will have to tell the nation about the source of his offshore wealth,” he said, adding that there were contradictions in statements of Prime Ministers’ family. To a question, he said that it was yet to be seen which parties come forward to save Nawaz Sharif.

The PTI chief said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to London was not related to his health. “I thought Mian Sahab went to London for treatment. But he was on any other mission,” he said. DNA
