ISLAMABAD: Pakistan created history in international women’s futsal as the Green Shirts secured their first-ever international victory, defeating Sri Lanka 3–2 in the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women’s Futsal Championship 2026, currently underway in Thailand.

The closely contested match remained evenly poised at 1–1 at halftime. Pakistan sealed the memorable win with a decisive goal in the dying moments of the second half, displaying remarkable determination and composure under pressure.
The victory was powered by a sensational hat-trick from Azwa Chaudhry, whose clinical finishing proved decisive against a determined Sri Lankan side. Her outstanding performance not only sealed the win but also marked a historic milestone, as it was Pakistan’s maiden victory in the SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship.
Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) President Mohsin Gilani congratulated the players and team management on the landmark achievement and expressed hope that the women’s futsal team would continue to deliver strong performances and bring further pride to the country.
Pakistan, who played out a hard-fought 1–1 draw against Bhutan in their opening match, will play their third match against Maldives on Saturday (today), followed by a highly anticipated clash against arch-rivals India on January 19.
With momentum now on their side, Pakistan’s women will be looking to build on their historic win and make a deeper impact in the championship.
