AMSTERDAM: The third matchday of the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2026 brought high-voltage drama, unexpected upsets, and thrilling end-to-end encounters across the pools.
Germany Edge Out Hosts Belgium (1–0)
In one of the most anticipated clashes of the tournament, Germany pulled off a major statement victory over host nation and Pro League champions, Belgium. Operating with a compact, structured defense, the German squad absorbed relentless Belgian pressure before Jakob Brilla converted a vital chance in the 39th minute. Despite late attacks from the host side, Germany held firm to claim top position in Pool B.
England Mount Comeback to Defeat India (4–2)
In Pool D, an overconfident Indian side surrendered a first-half lead to hand England a commanding victory. After England opened through Nick Bandurak, India responded with two goals via Harmanpreet Singh and Dilpreet Singh to take a 2–1 advantage into the break. However, England dominated the second half. Goals from Stuart Rushmere, Henry Croft, and a second strike from Bandurak completed a four-goal display that leaves England atop Pool D.
France and Malaysia Share Points in Six-Goal Thriller (3–3)
Malaysia and France engaged in a back-and-forth duel in Pool B. Malaysia took early initiative, but France’s penalty corner battery consistently threatened. A late equalizer by France’s Timothée Clément in the 59th minute salvaged a 3–3 draw, leaving both sides tied on points in the group standings.
Pakistan and Wales Battle to Spirited Draw (3–3)
Pakistan staged a spirited final-quarter comeback against Wales in a thrilling Pool D clash. Abdul Rehman gave Pakistan an early lead in the 3rd minute, but quickfire goals from Gareth Furlong and Rhys Bradshaw put Wales ahead 2–1 before halftime. Pakistan stormed back in the fourth quarter with strikes from Sufyan Khan (49′) and Hannan Shahid (51′) to retake a 3–2 lead. However, Furlong converted a 53rd-minute penalty stroke to ensure both teams shared the points
