ECP proposes July 24 to 27 for general elections 2018
ISLAMABAD, MAY 21 (DNA) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday has sent a summary to President Mamnoon Hussain, suggesting dates for the next general elections.
According to a statement issued by the ECP, the commission has proposed July 25 to 27 for the next polls and also decided to hold the elections under the supervision of subordinate courts.
It was also mentioned that the commission had sought lists of district, session and civil judges from registrar high courts under clauses 50, 51 of Election Act 2017.
The commission has also thanked Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) and CJ of high courts for providing the lists timely.
The officials of ECP stated that general polls would be held shortly after completion of parliament’s tenure and work on summary had been initiated.
If events go smoothly, it would be only second time in country’s recorded history that a democratic government would transfer power to another civilian government. All mainstream political outfits have expedited mass-contact campaigns as general polls near rapidly.
