Absar Alam formally appointed PEMRA chairman; will take charge on Dec 01

ISLAMABAD: Journalist Absar Alam has formally been appointed chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).The Establishment Division Wednesday issued a notification regarding his appointment. PEMRA has been without a regular chairman since late 2013 after the government removed Chaudhry Rasheed.Pervaiz Rathore, a PEMRA member was then given acting charge and following his retirement in May this year, Kamaluddin Teepu, an executive member, headed the authority. Alam works with Aaj Television and International Non-Governmental Organization – Open Society Foundation. He will take charge of his new posting from December 01, 2015. Absar is a veteran journalist and his career spans over 27 years. Absar made his mark as reporter in daily The Muslim in early 90s. Then he moved to The Nation and left The Nation when he was the Resident Editor of The Nation. After The Nation Absar switched over to the electronic media. He has worked for Geo, Aaj, Dunya CHANNELS. Before becoming the PEMRA chief he was anchoring a talk show at Aaj TV. =DNA
