ISLAMABAD (DNA) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday has adjourned the hearing of petitions against Nawaz Sharif, owning a political party despite disqualification, for indefinite time as no one from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) attended it.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) retired Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza conducted the hearing during which, CEC remarked to Niaz Inqalabi Advocate, “What can we do in this matter? as the Election Act Bill 2017 is already challenged in Supreme Court (SC).”

The advocate argued a party cannot remain registered in the name of a disqualified person over which, the commissioner said that party’s name is Pakistan Muslim league and Nawaz or Quaid are group names.

Subsequently, ECP adjourned the hearing as the issue is already in the top case.

Earlier on October 3, Nawaz Sharif was elected unopposed as Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president in the intra-party elections. The poll was held at Convention Center in Islamabad, and Nawaz Sharif was appointed to lead the party for next four years. A ruckus was also created by PML-N workers which broke the glasses of building’s gate.
