Woman burnt to death after refusing marriage proposal
MURREE, 01 JUNE (DNA) – A woman died on Wednesday after she was set on fire by a mob for refusing a marriage proposal in Murree. According to details, nineteen-year-old Maria, a schoolteacher, had refused to marry Shaukat, the owner of the school.
Maria’s father said a mob, along with Shaukat, barged into their house Tuesday night and started beating her. The mob then doused Maria with petrol and set her on fire. Following the incident, she was rushed for treatment to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad. Maria succumbed to her injuries Wednesday.
A First Information Report (FIR) of the incident was filed at Murree Police station, following which three people were taken into custody. A search operation is underway to arrest the fourth suspect in the case.
Punjab government has formed an inquiry committee to investigate the case. It is being headed by Additional IGP Sohail Khan, and will present its findings to Punjab chief minister within the next 48 hours. DNA
