Taj Mahal receives terror threat: reports
MAR 17, (DNA) – Banned terror outfit, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria has posed a threat to 17th century monument of love, Taj Mahal.
According to The New Indian Express, a website posted a picture of a terrorist at the Taj Mahal while apparently holding a weapon.
Reportedly, combing operation was launched after the threat was published online and no suspect was caught. Personnel patrolled the area surrounding Yamuna River Bank as security was beefed up.
However, according to the Indian news agency, Archeological Survey of India and law enforcers declared the security check a routinely matter and ‘played down’ the threat.
World heritage monument Taj Mahal, situated in Agra of Uttar Pradesh state draws over six million tourists every year.
Despite the apparent calmness of departments concerned, mock drills are being conducted multiple times in a day, Indian media reported. SWOT commandos have been put in charge of the place.
Bomb disposal squad visited the site on Thursday evening.
It should be noted here that a ten-day annual celebration called Taj Mahotsav in Shilpgram in Agra is about to begin on Saturday. Taj Mahotsav is reminiscent of the gone days of the Mughal era during which the monument was built.=DNA
