Sindh police chief reveals that his family was robbed in Karachi
KARACHI: Police and paramilitary forces might have brought back relative peace to Karachi, which was once notorious for targeted killings, but the city has seen an unprecedented surge in street crime during the last few months.
Street crime is so rampant that hardly any citizen has remained safe at the hands of motorcycle-riding gunmen who deprive people of their valuables before disappearing into the dingy streets of the metropolis.
Speaking at a workshop in Karachi, Inspector General Sindh Police Kaleem Imam left people in shock when he conceded that even his family was not spared.
Shedding light on the situation in good humour, he said his mother-in-law, brother, and nephews have become the target of armed robberies.
“Just imagine how my married life would be after my mother-in-law was forced to give up her jewelry,” he quipped.
The IGP then claimed that police have largely overcome serious crimes in the city, and that it was now busy trying to eliminate street crime.
He told the participants of the workshop about the initiatives that police have taken to curb street crime.
The provincial police chief deplored that people were unwilling to approach law enforcers after being looted in street crime.
