ISLAMABAD, FEB 14, (DNA) – Opposition on Tuesday staged a walkout from Senate over dropping the Federally Administer Tribal Areas (FATA) reforms from the cabinet agenda.

The session was presided over by Senate Deputy Chairman Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri. The opposition senators said on the occasion raised questions over dropping FATA reforms from the cabinet agenda.

Awami National Party (ANP) leader Ilyas Bilour said that a committee had been formed for constitutional reforms in FATA but the work was stopped just because one person had a different view. He said thatFATA was being deprived of its rights.

Threatening a sit-in if FATA isn’t merged with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Senator Ilyas Bilour gave government a deadline of March 12.

Senator Azam Musakhel said on the occasion that no decision should be imposed on the tribal people without consulting with them.

Senator Siraj ul-Haq added that his party, Jamaat Islami, was firm with the people of FATA. “There are separate laws in KP and FATA. History has given Raja Zafar ul-Haq an opportunity to make a decision that would change Pakistan”, he said.

“The decisions about FATA will be taken by the representatives and people of FATA. If we impose our decisions on FATA, the region might turn into a new Bangladesh”, said Senator Sardar Azam on the occasion.
