President calls for corruption free Pakistan for fast progress

ISLAMABAD, March 04 (DNA): President Mamnoon Hussain has called for corruption free Pakistan for fast and sustainable progress in order to realize the dreams of Quaid-i-Azam and Allama Iqbal.He was addressing a ceremony to kick off annual Spring Tree Plantation Campaign at Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad on Friday.The President said that Pakistan is on the road to progress and urged the people to support the government in completion of development projects.
The President said that trees and vegetation play an important role in national development and help overcome the adverse effects of the climate change. The President stressed for awareness campaign to apprise the people about the importance of trees and forests.
The President said that climate change poses new challenges globally and asked for concerted efforts to build a sustainable and climate-resilient future.
He said that March 21 is globally marked as the International Day of Forests and stressed upon the need to increase the forest cover in Pakistan in accordance with the international benchmarks.
He emphasized on including content related to climate change and the significance of plantation and vegetation in the national educational curriculum.
He asked the Ministry of Education to take steps in this regard so as to educate the young generation of the importance of trees and forests.
The President said that the federal and provincial governments were making efforts to not only control felling of trees but also increase its plantation. He urged upon the nation to actively take part in the ongoing tree plantation campaign throughout the country.
