PM leaves for US to attend 70th UNGA session

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif departed on Tuesday for the United States (US) to attend the 70th Session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).The PM will address the UNGA September 30 besides addressing the plenary meeting of General Assembly for adoption of the post-2015 Development Agenda. On the sidelines, Premier Nawaz Sharif will also attend global leaders meeting on gender equality and women empowerment organized by China and UN women.

He will also attend receptions hosted separately by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. and US President Barack Obama in honour of heads of states besides being taking part in a peace summit co-hosted by Pakistan, US and the UN Secretary General.

According to UN website, the Summit for the Adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda will take place from September 25 to September 27.

While the general debate of the General Assembly will take start from September 28 and will conclude on October 6.

In last year’s session, Prime Minister Sharif drew attention towards climatic change and its affects in Pakistan besides repeating the country’s resolve to fight home grown terror and Pakistan Army’s sacrifices in the global anti-terror war.
