ISLAMABAD, APR 13: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced the launch of direct flights from Lahore to Baku, Azerbaijan, with operations set to begin from April 20, the national flag carrier said on Sunday.

According to the airline’s spokesperson, PIA will operate two weekly flights on the route, with departures scheduled every Sunday and Wednesday. The move is aimed at strengthening tourism and trade ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

In connection with the new route, a special ceremony was organised in Karachi in honour of travel agents and tour operators. During the event, detailed information about the Baku flights was shared with attendees.

Speaking on the occasion, the PIA spokesperson said the airline views Baku as a promising destination and expressed confidence in the route’s commercial viability.

“The national airline is determined to make the Baku route commercially successful,” the spokesperson added.

The spokesperson further noted that the role of travel agents would be key in ensuring the success of this new venture, as they act as the primary link between the airline and prospective passengers.

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, the spokesperson said the direct connection between Lahore and Baku is expected to boost bilateral tourism and enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.
