PCB appoints Inzamam as new chief selector
LAHORE, 18 APR, (DNA) – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named former batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq as the team’s chief selector.
The announcement was made by PCB Chairman Shahryar Khan while speaking to media here in Lahore on Monday.
Inzamam-ul-Haq, speaking on the occasion, said that he was pleased to serve Pakistan after his retirement.
He said that selectors, coaches and captains have to be on the same page if the cricketing structure is to improve in the country.
Haq said that the selection committee will comprise of Tausif Ahmed, Wajahatullah Wasti and Wasim Haider. He added that he had requested PCB of selecting three individuals that were associated with first class cricket.
The former batsman said that improvement will be seen in the team soon. He added that the players have to be groomed and the coaches and staff have to work with them.
Shahryar Khan said that PCB had contacted several people for the position of head coach.
“No one is being given preference. We are in talks with some people whereas several have refused the offer,” Khan said.
The PCB chairman added former spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has been appointed the Head Coach of National Cricket Academy. He went on to say the cricketing academy will have a separate budget.
Khan also said that the team will attend a fitness camp, which he also referred as boot camp, in Abbottabad after which they will leave for the tour to England.
He added that there will be dietitians and sports psychologists will be there in the camp. =DNA
