Pakistan, S Korea agree on enhancing educational links

ISLAMABAD, APR 18 (DNA) – Kwak Sung-Kyu, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Pakistan called on Dr. Tariq Banuri, Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) at the Commission Secretariat on Thursday.

The two sides discussed issues pertaining to collaboration in higher education and research fields.

The Ambassador said that 1,650 Pakistani students are currently studying in different Korean higher education institutions.

The Chairman said that Pakistan and South Korea have a great potential to strengthen educational cooperation and research collaboration as the two countries enjoy good academic relations.

He stressed the need for launching student and faculty exchange programmes among higher education institutions of both the countries.

“Joint research initiatives may also be undertaken to further cement academic relations.”

The Ambassador highlighted the collaborative endeavours ongoing among Pakistani and Korean higher education institutions.

He informed the Chairman that Pakistan Global Institute is being established wherein two disciplines, Information Technology and Business Administration, will initially be started after approval of its law by the Government of Pakistan.

He said that the Korean Government welcomes initiatives meant to strengthen bilateral academic relations between the two countries.=DNA
