Pakistan retain winning squad for second ODI against Sri Lanka
ABU DHABI, OCT 16 (DNA) – Pakistan have retained the squad that secured a historic victory in Dubai tie for their second clash against Sri Lanka on Monday (today) at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium here.
The green shirts have avenged the Test defeat by outclassing the touring team with an 83-win in the first ODI on Friday. Babar Azam scored an impressive hundred while Shoaib Malik smashed a quickfire half century to help Pakistan thump Sri Lanka by 83 runs in the first ODI.
The victory was a good response by Pakistan after losing the preceding two-match Test series 2-0, in their first ODI since winning the Champions Trophy in England four months ago.
The team has retained the same combination despite opener batsman Ahmed Shehzad failed to score in the first ODI.
On the flip side, Sri Lanka have been at their worst, winning just four ODIs all year and now having lost eight in a row. Sri Lankan coach Nic Pothas is demanding his players snap the losing streak.
“We have not been very good in this format for a while now,” said Pothas, a former South African wicket-keeper. “We have to find answers and find them quick.”
“From a batting point of view, the currency of your batting is runs. If you don´t keep making them, the shop is going to close down at some point. We have to ask the batters to take some responsibility.”
