Pakistan needs US trust more than its money on fighting terrorism
ISLAMABAD, AUG 19 (DNA) – Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa tells the US that more than financial support, his country wants Washington to believe Pakistan’s efforts and sacrifices in fight against terrorism and militancy.
According to a statement of army media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Army Chief said this during a meeting with a visiting United States military delegation led by General Joseph Votel, Commander of the Central Command.
“More than financial or material assistance, we seek acknowledgement of our decades-long contributions towards regional peace and stability, understanding of our challenges and most importantly the sacrifices Pakistani nation and its security forces have rendered in fight against terrorism and militancy,” he maintained.
During the meeting, matters of professional interest with special focus on security situation in Afghanistan were discussed.
“The Army Chief highlighted the importance of Pakistan’s accords to its relations with US, particularly security cooperation and efforts towards regional stability,” the statement said.
The statement added General Qamar Javed Bajwa said Pakistan has undertaken operations against terrorists of all hue and colour.
Referring to Afghanistan and Pakistan-US relations, General Qamar Javed Bajwa said no other country has more interest in peace in Afghanistan than Pakistan.
He reiterated his commitment to work in close coordination with Afghan security forces and US-led Resolute Support Mission for improved security environment in Pakistan-Afghanistan border region. The US Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale was also present.=DNA
