Nigeria’s Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on parts of the state after a “surge in cult activities and related violence”.

The governor said the area around the Okoro-Nu-Odu flyover in Rumuokoro will be under a curfew for two weeks.

But a construction company working on a section of the flyover has been exempted from the curfew so that works could continue.

“The governor has also warned that government will spare no efforts to deal appropriately with anyone who decides to disturb peace and security in the State with cult activities and associated violence and killings,” read a statement in part.

Youths have been advised to beware of cult activities and not to get lured.

Cult gangs have been involved in crime and killings, according to local media.
