New JIT to interrogate senior politicians in Model Town tragedy
LAHORE, (DNA) – The Joint Investigation Team (JIT), probing into the Model Town tragedy, on Monday has summoned several politicians including former chief minister Shehbaz Sharif, his son Hamza Shehbaz, Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, former provincial law minister Rana Sanaullah, former defence minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, former information minister Pervez Rashid and former minister for water and power Abid Sher Ali.
They have been sent notices to appear before the JIT to record their statements.
Besides, former personal secretary for Punjab CM Imdadullah and former deputy secretary law Haji Muhammad Nawaz Gondal have also been summoned.
On January 4, the Punjab Home Department had constituted a new JIT, following the directives of the apex court to probe into the Model Town tragedy, which is being headed by the Additional IG AD Khawaja.
Previously, a report compiled by another JIT was rejected and a new JIT was formed on the orders of the court.
On June 17, 2014 in Model Town area of Lahore, Punjab police officers opened fire on unarmed members of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), killing 14 men and women, and injuring at least 100 people.
