NAB recovers Rs. 23,578,459 in flood Affectees case

ISLAMABAD, 17 MAY (DNA) – NAB Rawalpindi has said that it recovered Rs. 23,578,459/- in flood Affectees case, an official statement says on Tuesday. An inquiry is under progress on the allegations of misappropriation and embezzlement of funds by accused Ehtesham ul Haq Malik s/o Mehboob Ahmed Malik.
The accused Ehtesham Malik (legal attorney, Siyahkalem) dishonestly misappropriated funds which were transferred to him for payment to PDMA / MEPCO for electrification of houses constructed for flood affectees.
The accused malafidely reported to its company through email that the payment has been made to PDMA for the said purpose and fraudulently/ dishonestly attached a fake pay order as a proof of payment.
NAB inquiry reveals that no payment was made to PDMA by accused Ethesham Malik, rather he misappropriated the same hence committed the offence of corruption and corrupt practices as defined in section 9(a) of NAO, 1999.
The accused was arrested and physical custody was granted to NAB. The accused, prior to the authorization of investigation, voluntarily came forward and submitted an application and offered to voluntary return his liability determined by NAB.
The liability of accused was determined as Rs. 23,578,459/- and the accused agreed to return the total liability, thereby the competent authority has accepted his voluntary return. The accused has paid Rs. 8,016,676/- as down payment through Pay Order and has furnished security for the remaining amount to be paid as per schedule. DNA
