Karachi operation to be taken to logical end: PM

KARACHI, 26 FEB (DNA) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has reaffirmed the commitment to take the Karachi operation to its logical conclusion to purge the metropolis of all crimes. He was addressing the ground-breaking ceremony of Green Line Bus Transport System in Karachi Friday.Nawaz Sharif said incidents of target killings, kidnapping for ransom and other violent acts have been reduced to a great deal and the situation will continue to improve as the government is firm in his commitment to restore peace.

About the Green Line Bus Transport System, the Prime Minister said the government has provided sixteen billion rupees for the project, which will provide modern transport facilities to the commuters. He said work on the second track of Lyari Expressway will be started next month and directions have been issued for release of two billion rupees for the project.

Nawaz Sharif said the network of motorways is being spread throughout the country. Work on Lahore-Karachi motorway will soon be started which will link Karachi to Peshawar. He was confident that in the next few years, Pakistan will emerge as a country having the best connectivity infrastructure in the region.

The Prime Minister said indigenous resources are being used to meet the power requirements of the country. He said it is the first time that Thar coal is being exploited to produce electricity. He said due to effective policies, the country is also making a turn-around on economic front.

Earlier, the Prime Minister was briefed at a meeting in Karachi about the overall law and order situation in the province. The meeting was attended amongst others by Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ibad, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and DG Rangers Sindh Maj. General Bilal Akbar Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid was also present on the occasion. DNA
