India’s actions in occupied Kashmir ‘unacceptable’: US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders

HOUSTON (DNA) – United States (US) presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Saturday has expressed deep concern over the escalating unrest in occupied Kashmir and said that India’s actions in the valley after revoking its special constitutional status were “unacceptable”.

Sanders said, “Crackdown in the name of security impedes the access to medical care. Even many respected doctors in India have acknowledged that the Indian government restrictions on travel are threatening the life-saving care that patients need.”

He further demanded to immediately lift communications blockade in Kashmir.

“United States government must speak out boldly in support of international humanitarian law and support a United Nations-backed peaceful resolution that respects the will of the Kashmiri people,” he urged.

Occupied Kashmir has been under a clampdown since August 5, following Indian government’s step to repeal special status of the valley.
