ICCI eyes long-term Chinese partnerships for economic growth

ISLAMABAD, MAY 4 /DNA/ – President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sardar Tahir Mehmood, has termed China’s remarkable industrial development a “beacon light” for emerging economies, urging Pakistan to adopt consistent policies and create a more conducive investment climate to attract foreign investors and accelerate economic growth.

He expressed these views while talking to different visiting delegations of business leaders at the Chamber House here on Monday after returning from a week-long official visit to Guangzhou, China. During the visit, he held a series of high-level meetings with Chinese counterparts and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Guangzhou International Cooperation Center to strengthen institutional linkages and promote bilateral trade.

Sardar Tahir Mehmood highlighted China’s rapid industrialization, driven by long-term planning, policy continuity, and strong infrastructure development. He noted that Chinese enterprises are increasingly looking towards Pakistan for investment opportunities, particularly in sectors such as manufacturing, technology, infrastructure development and construction and real estate.

“Chinese businessmen have shown strong interest in entering into joint ventures with Pakistani counterparts, especially in Islamabad,” he said, adding that Pakistan holds significant potential due to its strategic location, growing market, and improving connectivity under regional initiatives.

The ICCI President emphasized that to fully capitalize on this interest, Pakistan must ensure a stable and business-friendly environment. “Policy consistency, ease of doing business, and investor confidence are key prerequisites to attracting sustainable foreign direct investment,” he remarked.

He further stated that the MoU with GICC would serve as a practical platform for facilitating direct business-to-business (B2B) matchmaking, exchange of trade delegations, and promotion of investment partnerships between the two countries.

Members of the visiting delegation appreciated the ICCI’s proactive role in fostering international business linkages and expressed optimism that enhanced cooperation with Chinese institutions would open new avenues for trade and industrial collaboration.

On this occasion Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub, Vice President Irfan Chaudhry,  Council member Chaudhry Masood, Executive Members Imran Minhas, Aftab Gujar, Abdul Rehman Siddiqui, Ishaq Sial,Zulqurnain Abbasi,  former SVPs Khalid Chaudhry, Naveed Malik, ICCI senior member Israr Mishwani, Shaikh Haroon Hayat,  and other were also present.
