ICCI appreciates ITP creating road safety awareness in youth

ISLAMABAD, JUL 14 (DNA) – Creating maximum awareness in youth and citizens about the road safety measures is very important as a WHO’s global status report on road safety showed that over 30,000 lives were lost in Pakistan due to the road accidents and it was appreciable that under the dynamic leadership of the Inspector General of Police Islamabad, Islamabad Traffic Police has adopted a proactive approach to create road safety awareness in youth.

This was stated by Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) at the occasion of a road safety quiz competition organized by the Islamabad Traffic Police in collaboration with ICCI at Chamber House. Qazi Jamil ur Rehman, Inspector General of Police Islamabad was the Chief Guest.

 Fatma Azim Senior Vice President, Abdul Rehman Khan Vice President ICCI, DG Safe City, Syed Karrar Hussain SSP Traffic Division. The students of Bharia, COMSATS and Punjab Group of Colleges reached the final round of competition, which was won by the COMSATS team.

Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan lauded the efforts of Qazi Jamil ur Rehman, IGP Islamabad who was taking many initiatives to improve the security situation through introduction of new technology under the safe city project. He also appreciated ITP for sensitizing youth about road safety by organizing quiz competition for students as it was very important to promote disciplined driving in youth to promote road safety.

 He said that due to the good efforts of ITP, road accidents in Islamabad were quite low as compared to other cities, which should be appreciated. He assured that ICCI would fully cooperate with ITP in its endeavours to promote disciplined traffic in the federal capital.

Addressing the concluding ceremony, Qazi Jamil ur Rehman, Inspector General of Police Islamabad said that the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) was making great efforts to ensure a safe road environment in the city and holding a quiz competition among students was another right step in that direction.

He said that such initiatives would forge close links with students and promote safe driving culture on roads leading to further reduction in road accidents. He stressed that the students should keep working hard in order to excel in education and cooperate with police in promoting disciplined traffic in the city. He urged that students should avoid one wheeling and rash driving as these practices posed great threats against road safety.

He said that equal application of law were the operational codes of the ITP and excellent planning and strategy regarding traffic management has helped in reducing the ratio of fatal and non-fatal road accidents in the Capital.

The students of Bahria University, COMSATS University and Punjab College reached the final round of quiz competition. They were asked questions about traffic laws, road safety measures and signals. The COMSATS team won the final round of the competition.=DNA
