Head of Working Group: Armenian lobby strikes the biggest blow for US interests in the region
“It is not accidental that the US House of Representatives passed a resolution on the so-called ‘Armenian genocide’. This should be regarded as a decision based on bias and binary standards. Azerbaijan is always by Turkey’s side. Adoption of politicized decisions serves to strained situation in the region,” Chairman of International and Interparliamentary Relations Committee of Azerbaijani Parliament, Azerbaijan-US Interparliamentary Relations Working Group Samad Seyidov said at briefing.
He said that those, who presented and supported the draft resolution on the Armenian genocide to the House of Representatives held meetings and hearings with the “Foreign Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh” in Congress: “These issues are interrelated. These are the issues that have a serious impact on both Turkey and Azerbaijan. Organizing hearings under the name of Artsakh in Congress will have a serious negative impact on the US reputation as the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair. The US has shown itself as an objective party in relations with Azerbaijan. Such steps taken by Congress are contrary to the US interests in the region. As a Chairman of International and Interparliamentary Relations Committee of Azerbaijani Parliament, I condemn the decision made by the House of Representatives. I believe that is an attempt by the Armenian lobby to undermine Azerbaijan-US relations. There were no more than 10-15 people, who attended those hearings. Those, who participated in those hearings held under the name Artsakh, presented project on so-called “genocide” to the House of Representatives.
The head of the Working Group said that the relations between Azerbaijan and the US are at a high level, and the US support for Azerbaijan’s energy projects is clear: “However, Armenian forces operating in Congress strike the biggest blow to US interests in the region.”
