Cultural harmony: Brazilian ambassador celebrates wedding in Pakistani style

ISLAMABAD: It was indeed a rare show of cultural harmony when Ambassador of Brazil Claudio Lins celebrated his wedding in Pakistani style. The function, which was sponsored by some Pakistani friends of the ambassador, contributed greatly towards strengthening of cultural relations between the two countries. The response from the Pakistani people to this wedding was also tremendous and everybody liked the idea. Following this particular event, there were a few other diplomats also who decided to celebrate their wedding in Pakistani style.

And those who could not celebrate wedding in traditional Pakistani fashion, participated in various fashion shows held in different parts of the country in order to help promote Pakistani culture.

Some diplomatic envoys try to become familiar with Pakistani culture, others prefer to experience Pakistani traditions in their own lives. This was the case of the Brazilian Ambassador Mr. Claudio Lins and his wife Ms. Zu Lins. Fascinated by the traditional Pakistani weddings, the Brazilian couple perhaps expressed wish to have their wedding celebrated in Pakistani style also and their Pakistani friends were quick to oblige.

First, the couple received traditional refined clothes, which were made following their preference from perhaps the best available tailor because the dresses for both Ambassador and his wife were prepared keeping in view their choice and personality that is why when the couple, attired in Pakistani wedding dresses, appeared before the audience everybody present there was simply amazed because they were looking so elegant in the Pakistan wedding dress.

The best silks and embroideries were selected as it is customary in wedding ceremonies of rich families of this country. Mrs. Zu Lins specially complemented her luxurious attire with gold jewelry presented by the hosts for the event which can be considered as prime examples of the best Pakistani goldsmith tradition. A sumptuous wedding party took place in one of the most elegant venues of posh Sector E-7, Islamabad, sources claimed. Besides all these gifts from the party organizers, the couple reportedly received different luxurious gifts from the guests to the party, all of them Pakistani businessmen and their wives, which of course is a normal practice and tradition showing respect and love for the foreigners.

For its originality (it was the first time that a foreign envoy received such a party), the elegance of the venue, the high quality of the catering service and the big number of guests, the Pakistani wedding ceremony of the Ambassador of Brazil was very much talked about in all Pakistan. The happiness of Ambassador Lins and his wife could be seen in the tens of photos of them which have appeared in the social media and few magazines.

The party organizers were quite happy because they had offered similar services to other diplomats but they declined saying they were not able to accept such offers because of strict legislation in their countries that forbade them to accept any such packages.  It was a bit annoying for the hosts because they genuinely wanted to promote Pakistani culture thru diplomatic channels because it was something unique and people liked the idea.

“We will continue to host such functions in the coming days also because we believe this is a potential means of achieving cultural harmony  and promote various cultures’, said one of the organizers.
