Karachi: Polling for NA-258 by-election tomorrow
KARACHI, NOV 27, (DNA) -By-election in NA-258 Karachi constituency will be held on Monday (tomorrow), DNA News reported.
The provincial and federal government has announced a public holiday for all offices located in the constituency. The Chief Election Commissioner Sindh toured the constituency and observed the arrangements for the by poll.
The seat fell vacant after Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Abdul Hakeem Baloch had resigned from the party and joined Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in the by-election.
Eleven candidates from different political parties are contesting the by-election. There are 408,163 registered voters in the constituency, which includes 241,792 male and 166,821 female voters.
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had announced the by-election on 22nd November. The poll date later extended to 24th November due to the administrative reasons.
The election was again rescheduled after Director General Rangers (Sindh) Major General Bilal Akbar had informed the election commission that the para-military agency has been busy in the arrangements of IDEAS 2016 defence exhibition.
The provincial government has announced a public holiday on the occasion. All federal and provincial institutes will remain close
It may mentioned here that generally in by-election the ruling party wins,. However in Karachi situation is different. We have seen in the past that MQM was able to retain its seats in the by election.=DNA
