Rangers recover cache of ammunition from Karachi’s Baldia Town
Pakistan Rangers Sindh on Saturday recovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition from a house in Karachi’s Baldia Town area, a statement issued by the paramilitary force said.
The weapons were hidden under the floor of a house in Baldia Town’s Musharraf Colony and included one G3 rifle, five submachine guns, two 8mm rifles, 14 magazines and 5000 rounds.
According to the statement, the weapons and ammunition were meant to be used for target killings and to conduct terrorism activities in the metropolis.
Earlier this month, a huge cache of Nato weapons and ammunition was recovered by police during a raid on an empty house in the Azizabad area of the metropolis.
Police seized a large number of weapons including anti-aircraft guns, SMGs, LMGs, sniper rifles,hand grenades and rocket launchers hidden in the water tank of the empty house.
Bulletproof jackets and helmets were also recovered in what the Karachi police chief Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar termed the “biggest recovery of arms and ammunition in the history of Karachi”.
Rangers is currently spearheading an ‘operation’ against criminal elements in Karachi, which was initiated back in September 2013 after the federal cabinet empowered the force to lead a targeted advance with the support of police against criminals identified for their alleged involvement in targeted killings, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism in Karachi.
