Ahsan stresses on ensuring sanctity of vote, supremacy of parliament

ISLAMABAD, FEB 20 (DNA):Interior Minister Professor Ahsan Iqbal Monday said the sanctity of vote and supremacy of Parliament would have to be ensured for achieving rapid progress and prosperity.

Speaking in the National Assembly on a Point of Order, he said frequent interruptions in democratic system and abrogation of constitution had played havoc with the country’s economy.

He urged country’s key institutions to work in cohesion and ensure harmony, non-interference in each other’s workings and duties. Democratic system should continue with harmony as 70 percent time had been wasted on non productive issues during the last one year.

He said public representative are being insulted and termed as ignorant, adding people’s right to franchise could not be challenged. Parliament is the collective voice of 20 million persons, which must not be insulted.

He said he could not take action against the corrupt of his ministry as they obtain stay orders from various courts. Pakistan could progress rapidly if institutions do not interfere unnecessarily. There is an institutional disruption due to persistent interference of institutions.

He said we have come into ticker era, as everyone is trying to attract tickers which vitiates atmosphere.

Certain lobbies are in action to frustrate China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He said he respects opposition’s point of view.
