Sindh doctors end three-day strike after successful negotiations
KARACHI (DNA) – The three-day strike of doctors and paramedics in Sindh s government hospitals ended on Wednesday following successful negotiations with the Sindh government.
Sindh chief minister s adviser Barrister Murtaza Wahab assured the protesters of raising their salaries equivalent to those of doctors in Punjab. Wahab said that the demands will be met within a week.
After the declaration, the doctors announced to begin work in hospitals from Thursday.
Earlier, provincial health minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho called the striking doctors for negotiations and assured them of a salary hike however; the doctors insisted on issuing a notification.
The matter settled after the announcement of Sindh chief minister s adviser.
The Young Doctors Association (YDA) had boycotted the outpatient departments (OPD) of government hospitals from the last three days.
The demanded that the provincial government increase their salaries, allowances and health insurance to the same levels as those offered to government doctors in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
The OPDs of hospitals in Hyderabad, Khairpur, Tharparkar, Nawabshah and other cities remained close as doctors associated with the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and other similar organisations boycotted their duties.
The doctors at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), Lyari General Hospital and other government-run hospitals have been holding demonstrations outside their institutes, and have been chanting full-throat slogans in favour of their demands.
Yesterday, two patients died allegedly due to unavailability of treatment at the hospitals in Naushehro Feroze.
