Syrian FM concludes historic Pakistan visit
ISLAMABAD, 21 Aug /DNA/ – The first official visit of a Syrian Foreign Minister to Pakistan since the formation of the new Syrian Government concluded today, with both nations agreeing to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors and strengthen their long-standing brotherly relations.
His Excellency Mr. Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, arrived in Pakistan on 19 August 2026 at the invitation of Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs. The two-day visit marked a significant milestone in resetting the diplomatic and institutional engagement between the two countries.
During bilateral consultations, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Syrian Foreign Minister reaffirmed the historic and fraternal ties that bind Pakistan and Syria. Emphasizing the need for regular high-level exchanges, both sides agreed to convene the established institutional mechanisms at the earliest opportunity. They further committed to expanding collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including trade, commerce, and cultural exchanges, while enhancing people-to-people contacts.
Beyond his talks with the Deputy Prime Minister, the Syrian dignitary held a series of high-profile meetings in the federal capital. He called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, where matters of regional significance and bilateral cooperation were discussed. Additionally, he met with the Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control, the Minister for Commerce, and the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, underscoring the comprehensive nature of the bilateral dialogue.
In an official statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit was described as a pivotal opportunity to not only reaffirm the enduring friendship between the two nations but also to chart a forward-looking roadmap for enhanced cooperation in the years ahead.
The Syrian Foreign Minister departed from Islamabad today, concluding his historic engagement with a shared vision for a strengthened Pakistan-Syria partnership.
