Trapped Pakistani workers in Dammam renew appeal for help
DAMMAM, July 01 (DNA): Dozens of Pakistani workers, who are trapped in Saudi Arabia’s Dammam city, have once again appealed the Government of Pakistan for help.Pakistani workers have been trapped in Dammam for more than two months after expiry of their iqama. They have also been deprived of their monthly salaries due to financial problems of their employer, M/s. Saad Contracting and Construction Company.
According to affectees, two members from Pakistani embassy visited them and left after saying “please pray”.
According to a private television channel, Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakariya said that Saudi authorities have ensured to address their problems at earliest.
Earlier on June 23, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had informed that the Embassy of Pakistan in Riyadh is making efforts to address suffering of Pakistani workers in Dammam on account of non-payment of their dues by a construction company.
“The Embassy has been in touch with Pakistanis, facing the issue, and also the company administration. On 18 May, the Embassy representative, who deals with legal matters, visited the company and met our expatriates, who were facing the issue of nonpayment.
The representative also met the company officials who assured that they are trying to overcome their problems and intend to clear their employees dues as soon as possible,” the ministry reported. DNA
