State TV to broadcast Korean drama series

ISLAMABAD: From 4th January 2016 [Monday] PTV Home will broadcast a Korean drama series famously known as Jewel in the Palace (Dae Jang Geum) at 6:45pm from Monday to Saturday. The airing of Jewel in the Palace on PTV Home is a big step forward in promoting cultural ties between Pakistan and the Republic of Korea. For the convenience of viewers in Pakistan the drama will be dubbed in Urdu.
Jewel in the Palace is one of the top ten Korean drama series of all time and has already been aired in 91 countries all over the world including the USA, Canada, Australia and many others.
Jewel in the Palace is based on a true story and is a historical drama set mainly in the 16th century. It follows the tale of a young and poor orphaned woman who eventually became the king’s first female physician in an era when women had little influence in society. In the process she overcomes challenges and intrigues and learns the secrets of cooking and medicine to cure the king of his medical problems.
The drama series has been praised for its excellent portrayal of Korean society and culture during this historical time and its resonance with audiences all over the world who can easily identify with the characters and social issues which confront many of us.
The airing of the series in Pakistan has been made possible through the sponsorship of Samsung and the cooperation of PTV Home and the Ministry of Information, Broadcastingand National Heritage.
