Govt resolute to root out terrorism from country

ISLAMABAD, JULY, (DNA) – Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that government firmly resolves to root-out terrorism and extremism from the country.

He said that military action in the troubled area would continue till the last terrorist outfit is busted.

He was talking to Mr. Stephan Hedley, Chairman of Board of Directors of US Institute of Peace who called on Speaker, National Assembly along with a delegation in Parliament House, this morning.

During the conversation, strengthening of bilateral parliamentary relations, working of Parliament, its committee system and parliamentary oversight on Executive came under discussion.

The Speaker said that military interventions in the yesteryears disrupted political process in the country; however, he was confident that democracy would strengthen by the continuation of political process.

He said that issues of national importance were being debated upon in parliament, providing guidelines for the government to formulate its future policies.

The Speaker said that being a staunch supporter of parliamentary diplomacy, he had formed Parliamentary Friendship Groups (PFG) with friendly parliaments.

He said that discourse between members of the parliaments provide opportunity to them for exchange of views, share experiences and bring their respective nations more closely.

He specially mentioned the active Members of PFGs with China, Afghanistan, India, UK and Germany who have been actively engaged with their respective colleagues.

The Speaker also informed the Chairman USIP about his initiatives for restructuring of the National Assembly, capacity building of its Members and staffers and conversation of Parliament Building on Solar energy.

He paid his gratitude to the development partners who have expressed their keenness to assist him in his initiatives.

Stephan Hedlay said that US also considers Pakistan as one of its close friends and will always support socio-economic development in the country, he also acknowledged the sacrifices of the Pakistani nation in fight against terrorism and extremism.

He agreed that continuation of electoral politics was the solution to all problems. He appreciated the visionary personality of Speaker saying that democracy will strengthen under his statesmanship.

He supported exchange of parliamentary delegations between US and Pakistan for sharing views and experiences. He extended his support for capacity building of parliamentarians and parliamentary staffers. =DNA
