Govt held meetings with opposition to amend NAB law: Farogh Naseem

ISLAMABAD, MAY 02 (DNA) – Federal Minister of Law Farogh Naseem on Thursday said that the government will introduce amendments in laws governing the NAB and Criminal Procedure Code.

Replying to a point of order in National Assembly session, the law minister said that the government has held several meetings with the opposition to reach a common ground over amendment in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) law.

He said the opposition has given a long list for proposed amends in the law. “We have no ego issues, the bill will be given final shape,” the minister said. He urged the opposition to strengthen the government for a strong Pakistan.

The law minister in a statement last month said that the government and the opposition were discussing amendments in the law governing the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Naseem said that he and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi frequently met the opposition members to discuss the issue. “The opposition’s response to the government’s recommendations has not been positive so far,” the minister told media.

He added that the government was committed to the eradication of corruption from the country. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Naveed Qamar told the media his party has put forward several recommendations for NAB reforms= DNA
