70-year-old woman dies amid ruckus at Nadra office

GUJRANWALA, FEB 16 (DNA) – In a tragic incident, an old woman lost her life during a stampede at a local office of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) at Punjab’s Gujranwala city.
Our correspondent said an elderly lady, Rasool Bibi, was standing in a long queue for last few hours when the stampede suddenly occurred at the jam-packed Nadra office. A large number of people were waiting there to get national identity cards (NICs) updated or renewed.
“She fell unconscious and died,” an eyewitness told Samaa on the spot. Her tragic death irked NIC aspirants who later thrashed Nadra staff. The victim’s son-in-law claimed that Rasool Bibi was waiting for her turn in a long queue since 4am, and that the staff was demanding bribe to get in.
While covering the sad incident, Samaa’s cameraman was also attacked by Nadra officials and security guards.DNA
