US general explains key American interests in Pakistan
WASHINGTON: The United States still has three key interests in Pakistan, averting Al Qaeda’s re-emergence, preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons and promoting regional stability, says the next chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff.Marine Corps Gen Joseph F. Dunford Jr, who currently heads the US Marine Corps, told his confirmation hearing that Pakistan’s cooperation was also important for ensuring a “peaceful outcome in Afghanistan.”
1st ODI: Hafeez the hero in clinical Pakistan win
DAMBULLA: A dominant all-round performance by Mohammad Hafeez steered Pakistan to a six-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the first one-day international in Dambulla on Saturday.The off-spinner shrugged off concerns about his bowling action to grab four wickets as Pakistan, electing to field after winning the toss, kept Sri Lanka down to 255/8 in 50 overs. Hafeez then hammered a stroke-filled 103 to lead the tourists past the target in 45.2 overs, giving them the lead in the five-match series.
4,000 parents in northern Balochistan refuse polio vaccination
QUETTA: More than 4,000 parents have refused to administer polio drops to their children in the Quetta block that comprises of the Quetta, Pishin and Killa Abdullah districts of northern Balochistan, Coordinator Balochistan Emergency Cell Dr Syed Saifur Rehman told. This year, at least four polio cases were reported from Balochistan, three of which came from the Quetta block. Officials termed parents’ refusal to administer polio drops as the underlying cause behind the aforementioned cases.
