Zaheer Janjua visits Canadian province Manitoba to meet State ministers, MPs and diaspora
OTTAWA, JUN 3 /DNA/ – High Commissioner to Canada Zaheer A. Janjua visited Winnipeg, capital of the Canadian province of Manitoba, to hold a series of meetings with the state ministers, city mayor, government officials and representatives of the Pakistani diaspora in Manitoba.
During the two-day visit, the High Commissioner held separate meetings with Mr. Jon Reyes, Minister of Labour and Immigration, and Mr. Obby Khan, Minister of Sport, Culture & Heritage. Issues such as the need to enhance bilateral trade, export of manpower, cultural exchanges and people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and Canada were discussed.
The High Commissioner also visited Winnipeg City Hall and held an interactive session with Mayor Scott Gillingham, Deputy Mayor Janice Lukes and Councillor Markus Chambers. He also interacted with local high schoolchildren visiting the City Hall.
During the visit, High Commissioner Janjua also attended a reception arranged by the Pakistani diaspora and their representative organisations, including Canada Pakistan Trade & Cultural Association of Manitoba and Pakistan Students Association, University of Manitoba. Manitoba Minister Obby Khan, Federal MP Terry Duguid and MP Kevin Lamoureux were also present.
High Commissioner Janjua also visited the Canadian Museum of Human Rights and held a productive session with Museum’s President & CEO Isha Khan who later showed him around. Later, the HC visited Jinnah Park and Malala Park named after the founding father of Pakistan and the world’s youngest Nobel laureate.
