Such verdicts to buttress narrative of Nawaz Sharif: Marriyum Aurangzeb

ISLAMABAD, FEB 21 (DNA) – Speaking to media following annulment of Election Act-2017 by the apex court, Federal Minister of Information and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PMLN) leader Marriyum Aurangzeb stated that such verdicts would only strengthen narrative of Nawaz Sharif.

“This decision is a chunk of Panama Papers Case thread. Nawaz Sharif will re-elect new chief of the party”, Aurangzeb said while adding, “Nawaz Sharif was and will remain party head”.

While obliquely taunting that they (PMLN) were anticipating such verdict, Aurangzeb asserted that a single party and family is being targeted. She said that PMLN has accepted and implemented all verdicts of the courts despite concerns.

“New candidates for Senate elections will be finalized after consultation with Nawaz Sharid”, maintained Aurangzeb.

On the other hand, PMLN chairman Raja Zafar ul Haq made it overtly clear that no decision has been taken yet to make Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif new party head.

Earlier, the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan disqualified Nawaz Sharif as president of the ruling PML-N in the verdict regarding petitions against Election Act of 2017.

While announcing the verdict, the apex court said that a person who doesn’t qualify on Article 62 and 63 of the constitution can also not hold the office of presidency of any political party.

It is pertinent to mention here that 16 petitioners had filed pleas against controversial Election Act-2017.
