SHARJAH: Usman Khan’s quick five-wicket haul helped Pakistan easily beat Sri Lanka in the fifth and final One-Day International match in Sharjah.
It took Usman Khan just 21 balls to reach his fifer today against Sri Lanka, the third fastest since 2001. The young bowler’s record haul helped Pakistan bundle Sri Lanka for 103, a target easily chased by the hosts for the loss of a single wicket.
He also added two more Sri Lankan scalps on two consecutive deliveries in his second over when Lankan Skipper Tharanga and Niroshan Dickwella conceded their wickets with scoreboard showing nine runs for four wickets. Later he grabbed his fifth wicket of Siriwardana who was caught by Fakhar Zaman.
While, Hassan Ali and Shadab Khan shared two wickets apiece. The highest score for Sri Lanka was made by Thisara Perera (25) as seven of their batsmen could not even touch double digit figure including three sent packing on duck.
Usman Khan completed his maiden five wicket haul in 21 balls, third quickest in one-day international matches since year 2000- after Chaminda Vaas against Bangladesh (16 balls) in 2003 and Van der Gugten (20 balls) against Canada in 2013.
The highly confident Pakistan team is all set for a whitewash today. Following a Test clean sweep at hands of the visiting team, the green shirts are looking to overcome the disappointment of losing the series against Sri Lanka.
Earlier, revealing his intentions, Pakistan Coach Mickey Arthur said that the team would be looking to inflict a clean sweep on the visiting team.
“I will be disappointed if we didn’t make it 5-0,” he said ahead of the match. “The guys are hungry and they definitely want to do that. The key for us is to maintain our hunger and ruthlessness so we need to keep that momentum and put this series to bed,” Arthur added.
