Teenager dies as speeding tanker crashes into house in Karachi

KARACHI, (DNA) – A 16-year-old girl died and eight others sustained wounds when a speeding tanker crashed into a house in Korangi area of Karachi on Tuesday.
The tanker crashed into the house near Darul Uloom colony, breaking its walls causing the death.
Soon after the incident, police and rescue teams arrived at the spot and pulled the trapped residents from under the rubble of the house. The deceased and injured were taken to Jinnah Hospital.
The locals in the area stage a protest when a crane tried to clear the rubble, insisting the owner of the tanker be summoned to scene of the crime. Soon enough the protests took a fierce turn and the enraged crowd started throwing stones at the police, after which orders to baton-charge the crowd were given to ensure the rescue operation continued.
Meanwhile, police have also started a search operation to arrest the driver of the tanker who fled after the incident.
Earlier in November, at least three siblings were crushed to death by a speeding water tanker in Karachi’s Shah Faisal Colony. Police said the accident took place when the tanker fell on a motorcycle while taking a turn.
